submission form for the text score dataset

On this page, you can add your text scores to the next iteration of the Text Score Dataset. Please read the instructions carefully before uploading!

We ask for your e-mail so that we can contact you if there are any problems with your submission, and also so that we can send you a small gift of some new scores - for every score you upload, we will send you a new score generated by the network. You are free to use these scores however you like.

By entering your score in the form below, you grant us permission to use it in our dataset. You of course retain the copyright to your work.

InstructionS on filling in THE submission form

VERY IMPORTANT: Please do not enter work that you have not personally authored!

ALSO IMPORTANT: Please read the instructions carefully before filling in the submission form.

Title: The name of your score.

Part/Movement: If your score has individual movements or parts which function independently, please make a separate entry for each movement, and fill this field in (for example “Floatation” from Water Studies, etc). If the different parts or movements are usually performed together as a whole, enter the piece as a whole and skip this field.

Dedication: Write the dedication as it appears in the score, for example: “For George Brecht.”

Series: If your work is part of a larger series or group of works (all of which are written by you), give the name of the series/group.

Catalogue reference: If the score has a catalogue reference such as a code or number, please enter it here.

Author: This will be filled automatically from the Name entries, but can also be edited here.

Alias: If the score was created under an alias please enter it here.

Year: Year of composition in format: YYYY or YYYY-YYYY for multiple years.

Anthology: If your score is part of a larger series or group of works written by you and also by other artists, we consider that work part of an anthology. Please give the title of the series here.

Publisher: If your work has a publisher, please enter their details here.

Text of score: Please fill in every detail of the score as it appears in its published form. That will most likely mean including a lot of the metadata you have entered separately. We want to see how a score title, author’s name, dedication is presented in the finalized score in this part.

You will have to sacrifice many aspects of your formatting - this is necessary so that the algorithm can be trained on the material. Nevertheless, please try to stick as closely to the intent of your original as possible.

A brief example of what a score looks like inside the dataset is given below - the metadata tags are at the beginning of the entry, and then the body of the score begins, repeating the title:

Note regarding line breaks and page breaks: Any line break which consists of 1 or more lines must be represented by a single empty line.

If your work is of 2 or more pages, and the layout and page breaks are crucial to a performance or reading of the score, please indicate a page break with two empty lines.

Notes: Please submit here any other relevant information about the score which might not be represented by the present metadata categories.
