as mo cheann (2000)

as mo cheann (2000) for voice and violin. 15’

Programme note:

The sounds I am interested in often include those which are normally considered flawed, or redundant. In this piece, I wanted to examine the relationships between different types of vocal and violin sounds. These sounds range over a physical continuum, moving from the space above the head down to the bridge of the nose over the course of seven short movements. The text used moves over a similar continuum, but functions sonically rather than literally – the sound of whispering is more important than the words being whispered.

as mo cheann is Irish, meaning “out of my head”
